It was C\u00e9line Camilleri\u2019s first encounter with the Noire du Velay, a sheep breed native to the Massif Central, that sparked her fascination with local wools 10 years ago. This undyed thread of deep, almost black intensity became her drawing line, anchoring her artistic practice.
Over the years, C\u00e9line has developed an expert eye and touch to discern the unique qualities of wool. While wool is often associated with softness, C\u00e9line explores its full expressive range: tufted, sinewy, shaggy, fluffy, vaporous, vibrant, matte, or lustrous. Through these infinite textures, she has cultivated a rich and plural visual language.<\/p>

C\u00e9line sources her materials from within a small radius of her studio, selecting them either directly at the shearing stage or from spinning mills in Creuse.
The wools undergo various processes\u2014washing, carding, spinning, weaving, felting, and embroidering\u2014using both manual and mechanical techniques.\n\u201cOur textile history abounds in ancestral techniques, while our creative ambitions constantly drive us toward innovation,\u201d she says.

In 2023, the atelier developed a woolen cord wrapped around a metal core, capable of being molded and holding its shape, introducing exciting possibilities for sculptural lace.
Haute-Loire\u2019s lace-making traditions offer a rich source of inspiration. C\u00e9line\u2019s reinterpretation of this heritage on a larger scale has resulted in the creation of XXL lace wefts. These wefts serve as space dividers or design elements, offering dynamic interplay between light and shadow.<\/p>

Available in five natural colors\u2014\u00e9cru, gr\u00e8ge, gris, intense brown\u2014and custom-dyed options, this innovative material also provides functional benefits such as moisture regulation, thermal, and acoustic comfort.<\/p>

C\u00e9line\u2019s commitment to promoting French wool through the Lainamac association earned her atelier the Prix Parcours by the Fondation Bettencourt in 2023.
