Céline Camilleri

Céline Camilleri is a textile artist who graduated from the École Supérieure d’Art et Design de Reims in 2002. Her work is a poetic fusion of material and technique, marked by an innovative approach to textile artistry. Based in the Puy-de-Dôme region, Céline was drawn to the local resource of sheep’s wool, which quickly became the cornerstone of her artistic research. Mastering artisanal techniques like handloom weaving and intuitive embroidery, she has developed her signature “felted thread drawing” method, enabling her to create distinctive, often large-scale works that traverse the boundaries between art and design.

Céline’s artistic universe delves into the endless potential of wool, which she perceives as a bridge between the living world and the landscape. Her creations, including wall tapestries, textile paintings, and bas-reliefs, evoke imaginary landscapes, where the softness of wool contrasts with the powerful expressiveness of shape and color. Inspired by her immersive experiences in nature, Céline transforms her impressions into flowing lines of yarn that capture emotion and sensation.
Since 2019, Céline has showcased local fibers through interior design projects that reinterpret traditional crafts with a contemporary vision. In 2023, she expanded her work into sculptural lace on an architectural scale, creating modular, monumental pieces that combine relief, movement, and graphic patterns. These works redefine space with dynamic plays of light and shadow, blurring the lines between craftsmanship and fine art.

Céline collaborates with architects, designers, and institutions on bespoke projects, creating sculptures, partitions, and furniture tailored to their needs. Each creation reflects a dialogue between her artistic vision and her partners’ requirements, resulting in timeless works deeply rooted in local traditions yet imbued with a contemporary vibrancy.

“My wool is a tool for exploring the tensions between the tangible and intangible. I weave stories, echoes of emotions that resonate through the material,” Céline explains.
